The city is more than just a collection of people and architecture; it is always what plays out between the built and the planned. Private space meets public space here. The carelessly abandoned, the randomly generated, the absurd and sometimes poetic is sensed out by the invited artists in their work and at the same time called into question. Another central theme is the role of urban space in the creation of a social fabric.
In a joint project the Kunsthalle Mulhouse and the Kunsthaus Baselland are bringing together two exhibitions that focus on the theme of the city. On the one hand, the goal is to connect symbolically the cities of Mulhouse and Basel or Muttenz across borders by means of the exhibition; on the other hand, the invited artists themselves call this theme of city, architecture, and urban life into question in their works. This cooperation resulted in two exhibitions that supplement each other
