Opening:

The Grimmwelt Kassel is opening its new special exhibition: The Swiss artist Sabine Hertig is showing, under the title Home, large format landscapes that invite viewers into richly faceted visual narratives.
The collages of the Basel-based artist Sabine Hertig (b. 1982) are unique in their visual language. Out of thousands and thousands of fragments, visual scraps from newspapers, magazines, and books, she uses scissors and glue to paint inscrutable, moving landscapes—providing the title of this cycle of works. The well-composed visual spaces produce an area of tension. Seen from a distance, her collages recall historical paintings and at the same time develop a dynamic spatial depth. These large-format works do not, however, follow any linear visual narrative but rather, when viewed from up close, break down into their individual images, into a network of bodies, animals, objects, textiles, and natural and architectural elements.
